At rest, your tongue should sit gently on the roof of your mouth with the tip just behind the front teeth. This helps keep the jaw relaxed and slightly apart.

In fact, your teeth should only touch when you’re chewing or swallowing.

When the tongue sits low or feels tense, it can contribute to jaw clenching and tension in the TMJ joint.
